Threat actors are no longer waiting for quantum computing capabilities to mature. Sensitive communications and mission-critical data are already being intercepted and stored with the expectation that future quantum capabilities will enable decryption. This “harvest now, decrypt later” dynamic introduces a time-delayed vulnerability that extends beyond current controls and into the long- term integrity of mission operations.
With the advent of quantum-enabled cryptographic disruption looming on the horizon, a static encryption model is insufficient to defend federal and defense networks. The infrastructure supporting mission systems must be able to evolve as cryptographic requirements change while minimizing operational disruption.
