Mission Readiness Powered by Technology and Partnership: Scaling AI at the War Department

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an essential part of the Department of War’s mission readiness. Both combat AI and enterprise AI, as Jacob Glassman, Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Science and Technology, refers to the two main categories of use cases, are giving warfighters critical advantages on the battlefield and synthesizing accurate, effective data for the public.

These use cases are powered by public-private partnership, and industry capabilities and best practices are being turned into a dependable foundation for government innovation. “[AI scaling] is all about repeatable, supportable patterns that can survive accreditation, cyber, and continuity requirements,” says Jason Schulman, National Vice President, Lumen. “AI at scale is less about scattered pilots and more about decision advantage delivered repeatedly from headquarters to the edge.”
